Why is Exotica rainforest an idyllic birding location?
Our 107 acre estate includes an 77 acre rainforest and a 20 acre organic exotic fruit orchard. Exotic birds seem to love the combination. We like to joke that our organic fruit farm is the biggest bird feeder in Belize!
In fact, some of our best bird sightings are right where the fruit farm gives way to the rainforest. Since May, 2023, our property has been a registered hotspot on e-bird.org and over 150 species have already been identified. We believe there remain at least 100 more species that remain to be identified. Let us show you some

Our property is nestled between the Cockscomb Jaguar Reserve and Red Bank, two of the top best-known birding destinations in Belize, and is halfway between the Mayan Mountains and the ocean, allowing for an overlap of mountain and seaside species.
Plus our rainforest constitutes an excellent stop for migratory birds. At various times of the year, it is estimated that some 250 species of exotic birds visit our property.
We promise an intimate birding experience on our private estate for small groups of 2 to 10 people, with our highly knowledgeable guide.

Christian Bech
Christian is one of the foremost and best-known birders in Southern Belize, with 17 years experience in birding. He brings passion and extensive knowledge to his activities as a birder, naturalist and professional guide.
He is equally passionate about accumulating knowledge about birds as he is about sharing it with others. This passion will help provide a memorable experience with Exotica. He also shares his passion with other birders and guides at Exotica, whom he trains.
On our tour, you’ll witness a diverse array of stunning bird species in their natural habitat. Our expert guide will lead you through breathtaking trails, offering valuable insights and unforgettable encounters with feathered wonders.
We welcome birding guests to make eBird lists at Exotica, contributing to the growing list of birds spotted; Christian is happy to assist you with this as well.

Our standard tour is 3 hours. We highly recommend starting at 6.30 am, to see the most birds.
All tours are walking tours. Please wear boots or heavy-duty appropriate shoes.
Are you a seasoned birder or new to the world of birdwatching?
This tour promises an enriching experience for nature enthusiasts of all levels.
All tours and meals must be booked in advance. (No walk-ins please!).

Minimum Group Size: 4 Persons
Subject to a minimum $100 USD per party.
In addition a hearty breakfast is available for $12 USD per person.
POLICIES
- No pets are allowed on birding tours.
- Children under 18 must be under supervision at all times.
- Guests agree that they are on the premises at their own risk.
Our property is part rainforest, part reclaimed rainforest. Hence guests may encounter venomous snakes or other wild animals. Guests agree to exercise caution and not deviate from marked trails, and to wear long pants and boots in rainforest. We reserve the right to postpone or cancel bookings (e.g. in the event of very heavy rain or storms).
